The story of him is so moving. Over the statue is the world-famous Shibuya Crossing. Let’s walk and experience the crossing, and then enjoy the view of it from the upside.
JR Yamanote Line
You may experience a “notorious” Tokyo's rush hour train, depending on the time of day. Please don’t fail to get off at the next station, Harajuku.
Meiji Shrine, a Shinto shrine, was founded in 1920. It enshrines Emperor Meiji, the father of modern Japan, and his wife Empress Meiji. It nestles in the very unique, beautiful forest. Good chance of direct contact with the spirit of Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan.
Harajuku is a stylish and sophisticated area. Here you will see contrasting two aspects of Tokyo, serenity and liveliness, tradition and new trend.
East garden of the Imperial Palace
Present Imperial Palace used to be Edo Castle where Tokugawa Shogun lived in and governed Japan from the beginning of the 17th century to 1867. Passing though the main gate, you may feel as if you were a daimyo feudal lord, back in time of samurai era. East garden has almost all important elements for a traditional Japanese landscape garden. Your guide gives you tips how to enjoy the garden while walking around the beautiful garden, the wooden area and so on.
JR Tokyo Station
Listed as an important cultural asset, Tokyo Station is the biggest terminal station of Japan’s railway system. It has a lot of trivia. In the station, you will find a lot of shops selling a variety of “bento” boxed meals and foods from all over Japan.
Once famous as “Electric town,” now Akihabara, nicknamed AKIBA, is known as a mecca of Japanese pop culture. Pop culture may sound something really new. However, you will realize Japanese pop culture, that includes figurines, cosplay dresses and cute idols, is based on the traditional “craftsmanship” the Japanese have long been cultivating. After strolling around the town, you may feel like an expert of Akihabara. On the street, you may meet “maid-san,” cute girls who wear maid costumes.
Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate)
Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) is the front gate for the temple. With a big red lantern, this is the most famous gate in Tokyo and a symbol of Asakusa.
Nakamise Street is the main approach to the temple. Both sides of the street are lined with a lots of souvenir and sweets shops with “Edo taste.” People in Edo era may have looked into the shops and enjoyed, too.
Did you know Senso-ji Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo? People have been visiting here for more than 1000 years! The main hall, the five-story pagoda, stone Buddhist images, monuments and so on are in the precinct.
You realize this is a religious site as well as an entertainment district. It’s like a theme park to enjoy an atmosphere of Tokyo in the past and present.
Asakusa Shrine, famous for Sanja Festival, is the last spot of the tour. About 400-year-old main hall is a secret art spot with many carvings of sacred animals whose colors were restored in 1990s.
